60BES Economy compartment car. This car was formerly an ABE First and Economy composite car, converted to economy and designated 60BE in 1981. In 1982 they were modified to BES to indicate that it had fewer seats than the standard BE carriage with 72 seats capacity. 1BG at Mildura 10.8.1981. 1BG was formerly a restaurant car "Kiewa". It was stripped and altered to a sitting car in 1961 and from 1975 was used regularly on the Yarram passenger service. Sleeping car SZ528, formerly 1VAM, with the new V/line colors and signage. 1VAM was built in 1983 as a 20 berth sleeping and sitting car for standard gauge services between Melbourne to Sydney, but has been used in broad gauge traffic since 1982.
