A Rail Motor Stopping Place was usually located at an intermediate point between established stations where there was likely to be a reliable offering of passenger traffic.

On 23-7-1923 a rail motor was introduced between Ouyen and Murrayville to replace steam-hauled services, however it was not until 17-9-1929 that a stopping place was opened between Danyo and Murrayville. (This followed the successful introduction of AEC rail motors on the suburban service between Redcliffs, Mildura and Merbein).

The opening of Stopping Place No. 24 was during a long drought that resulted in little or no crops, high levels of debt to mortgagees and high unemployment.

The rail motor service was withdrawn in 1930 and replaced by a Mixed train. This advice was officially recorded in circular S4300/30 dated 8-9-1930.

Rail Motor Stopping Place No. 24 therefore had a short life of only one year.

Rail Motor Stopping Place No.24 was later allocated to the Kerang to Koondrook line.
